The International Cricket Council has determined that there have been no financial irregularities pertaining to the Sri Lanka Cricket Association, according to Mr. Shammi Silva, President of Sri Lanka Cricket. The Sri Lankan Auditor General’s report has been looked upon by the ICC.

“The ICC has decided that there was no financial irregularity as claimed,” he said in response to questions from the media. “The ICC investigated the report through its audit department and related officials and it was revealed that there was no financial irregularity on the part of Sri Lanka Cricket.”

When discussing the cricket problem in Sri Lanka, the ICC Board stated that there has been a comprehensive political interference, including the Parliament, the President of Sri Lanka Cricket revealed, providing details about the most recent ICC meeting.

“There was a 45-minute conversation about the Sri Lankan issue. I was designated as an observer for the meeting, and my only role was to respond to questions; I was not permitted to participate in the decision-making process,” he stated.

Shammi Silva did, however, add that in spite of the current suspension, the ICC has consented to organize and participate in bilateral and ICC tournaments for Sri Lanka.

The Under-19 Cricket World Cup was shifted to South Africa since the ICC has made it clear that a suspended nation is unable to host an event. He added, though, that in response to our requests, the ICC acknowledged Sri Lanka’s entitlement to host bilateral cricket competitions and that it would permit the playing of both bilateral and ICC competitions in spite of the ICC suspension.

According to Shammi Silva, the ICC decided to grant Sri Lanka Cricket controlled financial facilities and withheld a total suspension of the funds in response to an appeal made by the cricket team in this regard.

“Therefore, we will need to report every expenditure to them from now on to get funds for specific payments,” he stated.
