Although the former France international acknowledges the similarities, he believes Mbappe’s game is more polished.
“Speed is our main asset, but he has technique as well,” Cisse stated. “I was more concerned with strength, power, and speed. Kylian’s game is more polished. We are not players of the same caliber, in my opinion.
Although a lot has changed in the game since Cisse moved from Ligue 1 to Liverpool nearly 20 years ago, the 42-year-old believes his skill set could compete at the greatest levels of modern football.
“I think I could have done it,” Cisse remarked. “I have no doubt that I would have loved it.” Defenses play a little higher and with a little more ball contact these days, taking a few more chances in their build-up. “With my speed, I could have done some damage,” the defense said. To test my level, it would have been enjoyable to play against players like Kylian Mbappe or Erling Haaland.
While Mbappe is the most impressive player in Ligue 1, Cisse has shown admiration for the attackers at Lens and Monaco.
Cisse remarked, “I really like Folarin Balogun (Monaco).” He resembles me somewhat. He enters the game from behind and plays instinctively. He acts without hesitation or second thought. He tries things and follows the current.
