The Cricket Cranes lost to Namibia by six wickets in the T20 World Cup Qualifiers because they picked the wrong match to have a bad day, especially on the field.

Namibia defeated a wild card squad like Uganda in a thrilling victory that came after their opening-day triumph over Zimbabwe.

The hosts won the toss and elected to bowl first in the cloudy circumstances. Simon Ssesazi and Ronak Patel got off to a cautious start, but then Namibian skipper Gerhard Erasmus came into the attack and trapped Ssesazi leg before wicket on his first delivery. Sessazi made a really dubious shot choice, especially before taking a closer look.

After hitting David Weisse for a magnificent half-dozen over his head, Roger Mukasa was beginning to look excellent. However, he was caught at the boundary off the very next ball because of greed.

The Cricket Cranes were losing wickets one after another and were unable to form strong enough partnerships to make an impact. Bilal Hassun’s late surge lifted the score into the 100s, but the team ultimately concluded at 114 all out.

Uganda has only themselves to blame for the chase, having thrown away five opportunities in the field. The Namibians provided opportunities that were turned down in an effort to rapidly complete the necessary runs.

Uganda suffered its first defeat of the competition, while Namibia had won two of the last three.

Match Summary

  • Uganda 114/10 in 19.4 overs
  • Namibia 116/4 in 17 overs
  • Namibia won by 6 wickets

The Cricket Cranes will play Zimbabwe again on Sunday morning.
