For at least the next four games, New Orleans won’t have its best cornerback available.

NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero reported on Saturday that Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore (ankle) is being placed on injured reserve. The report was based on a source’s statement.

In Week 10’s loss to the Minnesota Vikings, Lattimore—who had already been ruled out of Sunday’s game against Atlanta—sustained an ankle injury that head coach Dennis Allen called “fairly significant” as New Orleans prepared for its bye week.

Lattimore will miss at least four games; the earliest he could return is Thursday night’s Week 16 game against the Rams. It appears that the extra week off wasn’t enough time for him to fully recover.

The star wide receiver Michael Thomas was also placed on inactive reserve that week due to a knee injury, which is when the news about Lattimore broke.

Four-time Pro Bowler Lattimore has made ten starts this season and has one interception, eight passes defensed, 48 total tackles, and two tackles for loss. Arriving as a first-round pick in 2017, the seven-year veteran has secured one-half of the field for head coach Dennis Allen’s defense.

Paulson Adebo is expected to replace Lattimore in the role, with Isaac Yiadom
