South Africa has withdrawn from the bidding process to host the 2027 Women’s World Cup, which had received expressions of interest from Brazil, a joint bid from Belgium, the Netherlands, and Germany, a joint bid from the United States and Mexico, and a bid from South Africa.

They have since withdrew their bid, though, indicating that they would prefer to concentrate on submitting a bid for the Women’s World Cup in 2031.

South Africa wants to announce that it is pulling out of the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup bid. The country may submit a bid for the 2031 tournament when FIFA releases the call for entries. This is according to a statement released by the South African Football Association.

It has not been easy to develop the FIFA Women’s World Cup bid for 2027 in such a short amount of time. This does not lessen our dedication to women’s football; on the contrary, it has reinforced our resolve to field a competitive South African women’s team in 2031 and a strong bid for the same competition.

“We felt it was preferable to regroup and submit a well-prepared bid for the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2031 after receiving encouragement and guidance from the Minister and Deputy Minister of Sport. We were very appreciative of their support and advice in this regard.

“Attending to ensure that African champions Banyana Banyana have a competitive squad for the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2027 is the current focus.”

The United States and Germany are the only countries that have not previously hosted the Women’s World Cup among the remaining potential bidders for 2027. Germany was the host country in 2011, but the United States hosted the competition in 1999 and 2003.

Australia and New Zealand hosted the 2023 World Cup, which was the first women’s competition to be held in two nations. This tournament would be the first ever Women’s World Cup to be hosted by three different nations: Belgium, the Netherlands, and Germany.

Selected as the 2027 tournament’s hosts, Brazil would create history as the Women’s World Cup has never been held in a South American country before.
