The President of Sri Lanka has dismissed the Sri Lanka Sports Minister, which has given suspended Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) a boost. The SLC was being targeted by Minister Roshan Ranasinghe, who even dissolved its elected body, but the court decided to halt the publication of the notice in the gazette. In lieu of Ranasinghe, the new Sports Minister is Harin Fernando, Minister of Tourism.

According to media reports, President Ranil Wickremesinghe announced on Monday that Ranasinghe had been removed from his positions as Minister of Sports & Youth Affairs and Minister of Irrigation, effective immediately.

The SLC, which was suspended by the International Cricket Council (ICC) because of government meddling with its ability to operate autonomously, now has hope thanks to this development. The world cricket body may decide to reinstate him, but ICC observers argue that it is premature to think about lifting the SLC suspension right away.

After the SLC was dismissed in its entirety, Ranasinghe formed a temporary committee, which was chaired by the legendary former World Cup captain Arjuna Ranatunga. Ranatunga is not well-liked in the cricket community, either in his own nation or the ICC. As a result of the action, the ICC suspended its operations on November 10. The ICC Board affirmed this decision during its meeting in Ahmedabad on November 21.
