2023.11.30 – Brisbane Heat advanced to the WBBL final with a thrashing of Perth Scorchers in the Challenger, thanks to Grace Harris’ breezy fifty and Georgia Voll’s four-wicket haul. Heat, who lost to Adelaide Strikers at the same stage of the tournament last year, completed the task to set up a final against the Strikers on Saturday (December 2).sportzlanka.com

Heat’s decision to bat first paid immediate dividends, as Harris went on a boundary-hitting spree. She hit six boundaries in the first three overs of the innings, racing to 27 off just 11 balls, before finishing the sixth over with another four and a six, stunning the bowling side. Heat scored 59 runs in the first six overs, and Harris raced to a 26-ball half-century in the next over. Nat Sciver-Brunt then provided some relief for her team by dismissing Harris for 54, and a struggling Georgia Redmayne fell for 11 off 15 to give the Scorchers an opening.

Heat, on the other hand, persevered and found valuable contributions from the likes of Amelia Kerr, Mignon du Preez, and Laura Harris. Charli Knott made the biggest contribution at the end, plundering the bowling attack in the final two overs to hammer an unbeaten 32 off just 14 deliveries, leading Heat to 198.

Despite the fact that Lauren Winfield-Hill hit the boundary three times in the first eight balls of the chase. The Scorchers lost two wickets in two overs and were stuttering at 22/2, a stark contrast to the Heat’s start. Nat Sciver scored 36 points but received little help from the other end as Heat chipped away. Voll, who had already dismissed Chloe Piparo, took the big wicket of Sophie Devine before adding two more to her tally as the chase fizzled out quickly.

Final scores:

Brisbane Heat Women 197/5 in 20 overs (Grace Harris 54, Charli Knott 32*) beat Perth Scorchers Women 130/8 in 20 overs (Nat Sciver-Brunt 36; Georgia Voll 4/19) by 67 runs BBL 2023
