Rahul Dravid has been completely silent, which has added to the uncertainty surrounding his future as head coach of the Indian team. However, the Indian cricket board, or BCCI, is not holding its peace. It is going about its task as if nothing had changed. Travel documents have been prepared for Dravid and every member of his support team for their impending tour of South Africa.

The fact that the travel documents are finished does not guarantee that Dravid would proceed, though, because VVS Laxman’s coaching staff has already obtained visas. The board managers are getting ready for anything that can come up, while the BCCI is still waiting for word from Dravid. The Twenty20 team will travel to South Africa on December 6 and play three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) there on December 10, 12, and 14. In the next two days, the team will be chosen.

It is unclear from the BCCI’s statement whether Rahul or Laxman’s coaching team will visit South Africa. To maintain consistency and give the BCCI more time to decide on Dravid, there are chances that the current coaching staff will manage the Twenty20 series in South Africa.

India will play two Test matches and three ODIs in South Africa after the T20Is, with the final match taking place in Cape Town on January 7. An India A second coaching staff member is required to oversee the side’s anticipated December trip to South Africa.
