The U19 Division 1 Tier B Inter-Schools Limited Overs Tournament 2023–2024 has crowned Thurstan College and Lumbini College of Colombo as joint winners.
After winning the toss, Vihas Thewmika, the skipper of Thurstan College, asked Lumbini College to bat first. Lumbini College lost six wickets for 31 runs in the first over of their dreadful innings.
Lumbini College scored 178 runs for nine wickets, but Dinitha Prabanka and Dumindu Sewmina came through with a 98-run partnership for the seventh wicket, saving the innings.
Lumbini’s innings was saved by Prabanka’s outstanding knock of 85 runs off 143 balls, including five fours. Pasindu Mahisha and Sewmina both contributed with valuable 20s later in the order.
Vishwa Dhananjaya and Yovun Silpa each took two wickets, but Thanuga Palihawadana was Thurstan College’s standout bowler with three scalps for 51 runs.
Rain delayed play at Surrey Ground in Maggona, allowing Thurstan College to bat for just 11 overs in response. The remainder of the play wiped away by the rain. As a result, both sides were proclaimed joint winners by the match authorities.
