The renowned HSBC Dubai World 7’s competition, which is held in the United Arab Emirates, will see the first Sri Lankan alumni team, Royal College Royal Tuskers, take the field today (Dec 01st).

Members of ORUAE (Old Royalists in the United Arab Emirates) make up the Royal Tuskers squad. This former rugby squad was established in 1999 and has been participating in seven-a-side and tag rugby throughout the emirate ever since.

The rugby team is captained by Diane Diddeniya, and ORUAE’s President Shihan Sheriff, Secretary Shanaka Perera, and Patron Dhanika Gamage play important roles. Arshad Jamaldeen is the vice captain. Utpala Ranatunga is the team manager.

Taking place on a seven-a-side rugby pitch, this well-known competition was first conducted in 1970 and is divided into three categories.

The Royal Tuskers squad is in the open group, where 16 teams will compete under 4 categories. The players of the Royal Tuskers team will play matches in the preliminary round today.

The competition is scheduled to take place at the Sevens stadium in Dubai on December 1, 2, and 3.
