West Indies give Rutherford his ODI debut after England bats first.

The hosts choose two spinners, and England’s contribution from the fifth bowler comes from Livingstone and Jacks.

West Indies: 1 Brandon King, 2 Alick Athanaze, 3 Keacy Carty, 4 Shai Hope (capt, wk), , 5 Shimron Hetmyer, 6 Sherfane Rutherford, 7 Romario Shepherd, 8 Yannic Cariah, 9 Alzarri Joseph, 10 Gudakesh Motie, 11 Oshane Thomas

England: 1 Will Jacks, 2 Phil Salt, 3 Zak Crawley, 4 Harry Brook, 5 Ben Duckett, 6 Jos Buttler (capt & wk), 7 Liam Livingstone, 8 Sam Curran, 9 Brydon Carse, 10 Rehan Ahmed, 11 Gus Atkinson.

At the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua, England won the toss and chose to bat against the West Indies in the opening match of the ODI series.

The 2019 50-over winners’ white-ball comeback starts with an XI that only includes six players from the miserable World Cup campaign, bolstered by a few new but well-known names. Most of the latter is in the batting, where the only player still standing in the top five is Harry Brook.

Regarding the West Indies, their team is not only focused on developing young players, but they do have a strong desire to move on from their experience of missing the 2025 Champions Trophy and the premier tournament in India. Sherfane Rutherford makes his debut for a team mostly selected based on Super 50 achievements.

After successfully calling heads, Buttler proposed that the pitch remain unchanged for the entire 100 overs. According to Shai Hope, he would have chosen to bowl first and used Yannic Cariah and Gudakesh Motie as his two spinners. Liam Livingstone and Will Jacks, chosen by England, provide the tourists with more slow bowling options in addition to Rehan Ahmed’s legspin.

The weather is predicted to be warm and muggy, with highs in the 30s. The journey to the 2027 ODI World Cup begins here for both teams.
