Former winner Wozniacki receives a wildcard for the Australian Open.
Caroline Wozniacki was given a wildcard to the Australian Open on Wednesday, making her comeback to Melbourne for the first time in four years.
following retiring following the 2020 Australian Open to start a baby, the 33-year-old returned to the circuit in Montreal in August.
The mother of two competed in her first Grand Slam in three years at the US Open, reaching the round of 16.
“I have so many wonderful memories of Melbourne, and of course, winning the Australian Open is an all-time career highlight,” the Dane remarked after defeating Simona Halep in the final in 2018.
“It’s obviously a tournament where I feel completely at ease.” I adore the balls, the court, and the spectators.
“I’m truly grateful to everyone for the wildcard and having the opportunity to compete again at the AO in January,” the former world number one, who is now ranked 242 in the world, continued.
Wozniacki intends to bring her two-year-old daughter Olivia and one-year-old son James to the first Grand Slam of the year from the Miami home she shares with her husband, retired NBA player David Lee.
The Australian Open takes place from January 14 to 28, with Aryna Sabalenka defending her women’s championship and Novak Djokovic defending his men’s.
