Pakistan’s spinner will sit out the first Test against Australia.

Pakistan have announced that they would be without a vital leg-spinner in the first Test against Australia, which begins on December 14 in Perth.

Leg-spinner Abrar Ahmed was ruled out of the opening test after leaving the field in the first-class match against Prime Minister and XI due to significant pain around the knee of his right leg.

While the medical staff assesses Abrar’s injury, Pakistan has summoned up Sajid Khan as a backup to boost their spin attack.

On Monday, Abrar will have an intervention in Perth. Following that, cautious therapy will continue under the guidance of the team’s medical professionals as he begins his journey to recovery.

Abrar’s absence from the series has not been ruled out. Pakistan will make a decision on his participation before the second Test, which is set to begin on Boxing Day in Melbourne.

In his early Test career, the leg-spinner has already established himself as a wicket-taker. The first Test would have been his first test outside of Asia. He has 38 wickets in six matches thus far, including two five-wicket hauls.

In his seven Tests for Pakistan, his backup Sajid has similar experience. The right-arm off-spinner has 22 wickets and his sole abroad experience came when he made his debut in Zimbabwe. The second Test is set to begin on Boxing Day in Melbourne.

The second spin option for Pakistan in the team is left-arm off-spinner Noman Ali, who has played 15 Tests and taken 47 wickets in addition to over a hundred First Class games.
