WPL 2024 Auction
2023.12.10
The five teams’ results
With offers of INR 2 Crore from the Delhi Capitals and Gujarat Giants, respectively, Australian all-rounder Annabel Sutherland and India’s uncapped speed prodigy Kashvee Gautam became the joint-highest earners in the WPL 2024 Player Auction.
Thirty seats were available for the five teams, with Giants (10) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (7) securing the maximum number of slots to rebuild following their elimination from the WPL in its first season.
The other players to receive an eight-figure salary were Australia’s Phoebe Litchfield, uncapped India batswoman Vrinda Dinesh, and former South Africa pace star Shabnim Ismail. Scotland’s Kathryn Bryce, an all-around pacer, will be the only player representing an Associate nation in the forthcoming second league edition.
Here’s a look at the five clubs’ decisions to address their areas of concern from the previous campaign and how their teams are currently stacked
Gujarat Giants (GG)
The bottom-placed side in WPL 2023, Giants sought to strengthen their middle-order and they kicked off the proceedings this evening, shelling out INR 1 Crore for Australian batting prodigy Phoebe Litchfield. Besides the left-hander, they’ve also brought in the experienced finisher in Veda Krishnamurthy, who finally gets a WPL home. After adding current India medium-pacer Meghana Singh at her base price, GG went all out for the in-form express pacer – uncapped and only 20 years old – Kashvee Gautam, making her the joint-highest earner at the WPL 2024 auction – at INR 2 crore, which is 20 times her base price. After missing out last season due to a confusion, Giants this year become the only side with an Associate player in thier roster, having roped in Scottish pace-bowling allrounder, KAthryn Bryce at base price.
