New Zealand defeated Bangladesh by 44 runs in the first ODI at Dunedin.

Bangladesh lost the opening ODI of their visit to New Zealand by 44 runs in a rain-soaked match. Rain interrupted play three times during the interrupted match, which finally prompted the decision to limit the game to a 30-over match each side. The Blackcaps prevailed in spite of the difficult circumstances, taking a 1-0 lead in the three-game series.

Rachin Ravindra and Henry Nicholls were defeated by Shoriful Islam in the first over, causing early problems for New Zealand. Even though the hosts had some early problems, Bangladesh’s expectations of long-term happiness were dashed when Will Young and Tom Latham formed an outstanding partnership and scored 171 runs for the third wicket.

Latham batted with skill, scoring 92 off 77 balls, but Young was the most impressive player, scoring an incredible 105 off 84 deliveries to get his third ODI century. The Kiwis managed to record a formidable score of 239/7 in 30 overs, despite multiple run-outs committed by the opposition in the last stages of the innings, because to the late contributions of Mark Chapman, who scored 20 off 11 balls and 19 extras added to the score.

Bangladesh suffered an early blow in their chase of the amended goal of 245 in 30 overs using the DLS system, with the departure of Soumya Sarkar. Anamul Haque, on the other hand, put up a great effort, contributing 43 runs to the chase, while Litton Das and Towhid Hridoy scored 22 and 33, respectively.

Afif Hossain took over and played aggressively, scoring 38 runs off 28 balls. Mehidy Hasan Miraz made an important contribution in the latter stages, striking an undefeated 28 off 21 balls. Despite their efforts, the visitors fell 44 runs short of their goal, finishing at 200/9 in 30 overs. The disciplined bowling of New Zealand was clear, with only eight extras given.
