CWC 2023 star Dilshan Madushanka sold to Mumbai Indians for 4.60 crores
Dilshan Madushanka, a left-arm pacer from Sri Lanka, was not successful in the last IPL auction in 2023 since no club shown interest in him. Dilshan Madushanka has a year to turn things around in the IPL, the most business-friendly T20 competition in the world. As they made a major move for the Lankan pacer, Dilshan Madushanka would be joining the Mumbai Indians for the 2024 Indian Premier League season.
With 21 wickets in 9 games, Dilshan Madushanka ended as the second-leading wicket-taker in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India. Despite Sri Lanka’s poor performance in the World Cup, Dilshan Madushanka was one of the main highlights of the massive tournament. Madushanka won over everyone with his ability to take wickets and now has a lucrative IPL deal after arriving in India.
The basic price of 50 lakhs for Sri Lankan bowler Dilshan Madushanka at the IPL 2024 auction was surpassed by a staggering 4.60 crores when he was sold to MI. A bidding war broke out between MI and LSG for a Sri Lankan fast bowler. The Sri Lankan bowler piqued the eye of the Lucknow Super Giants early on, but they quickly decided against it. MI moved quickly since they only had one speed bowler who could take advantage of the Wankhede conditions.
The 23-year-old left-arm bowler from Sri Lanka will be participating in his first-ever IPL competition since he has not yet made his league debut. Madushanka has played for two different teams and been a consistent presence in the Lanka Premier League. His initial team was Galle Gladiators, and for the 2022 and 2023 LPL seasons, he later joined Jaffna Kings. In white-ball cricket, Madushanka has taken a lot of wickets.
Madushanka has participated in 28 T20I cricket matches and taken 29 wickets. He has played 11 games for his country’s team and represented Sri Lanka in Twenty20 Internationals. For Sri Lanka, Madushanka claimed 12 wickets in this format. In the World Cup, Dilshan Madushanka benefited greatly from the use of cutters. His variations caused problems for a few hitters in the top order. At Wankhede Stadium, Madushanka defeated India by taking five wickets.
