Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) on Monday, confirmed contract extension of Jonathan Trott, the national team’s head coach, for 2024.

The decision came in after his successful 18-month tenure, during which he made significant contributions to the team’s progress and development.

The former English cricket player, who was born in South Africa, was named head coach of the national team by ACB in July 2022. He oversaw the team’s incredible success and multiple victories, such as their outstanding showing at the T20 Asia Cup 2022, their first-ever international victory in a T20I series against Pakistan, their first-ever ODI series victory over Bangladesh, and their successful campaign at the ICC Men’s World Cup 2023.

Trott represented England in 52 Test matches between 2009 and 2015, accumulating 3835 runs at a career average of 44.08, nine hundreds, nineteen half-centuries, and a career best of 226 runs in one inning. During that time, he has also played for England in 68 One Day Internationals (ODIs), where he has amassed 2838 runs at a strike rate of 51.25, four hundreds, and 22 half-centuries.

For a three-match Twenty20 International series against the host team, the Afghanistan squad is presently in the United Arab Emirates. After that, they have a journey to India planned, where they will play the Indians in a three-match Twenty20 International series from January 11–17. The squad will also compete in the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, which will take place in the Caribbean and the USA in June.
