The Australian Open, the first Grand Slam competition of the year, will begin on Sunday at Melbourne Park. Novak Djokovic and Iga Swiatek, who are ranked correctly, have been assigned the No. 1 seeds, respectively.

The top seeds at the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam event of the year, will be defending champion Novak Djokovic and Iga Swiatek, playing according to their rankings. The Australian Open takes place at Melbourne Park on Sunday.

Following 24-time major winner Novak Djokovic is Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz, who is the only man to defeat Djokovic in a Grand Slam event in 2023. The men’s seedings for the tournament reflect the ATP rankings as on Wednesday, which run from Nos. 1-32.

Following the WTA rankings from Nos. 1 to No. 8, the women’s seeds were announced at Melbourne Park. Barbora Krejcikova was moved up to No. 9 due to the forced absence due to injury of her fellow Czech, Karolina Muchova, who was the finalist at the French Open the previous year.

Since falling to eventual winner Coco Gauff in the U.S. Open quarterfinals in September of last year, Muchova has not participated in any competitions.

Due to pregnancy, two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova will miss the first major of the year, while Madison Keys, who placed second in the U.S. Open last year, will miss the tournament due to a shoulder injury, eliminating the women ranked 17 and 18 for Australia.

When the major event brackets are set, the players in the top 32 are seeded so they avoid each other in the first round. Before the final, the top two seeded players cannot square off.
