The 16-year-old is breaking world marks, like the 400 medley record that let her pass the seven-year-old record held by Katinka Hossu and the 400 freestyle record held by Ariane Titmus.

“Obviously this is really fantastic and I’m really happy to get another world record!” she said after breaking the mark.

Not only did she break several junior and national marks that week, but she also made history by being the first female swimmer to simultaneously hold world records in the 400 freestyle and 400 mixed events. She also tried her hand at the 200 freestyle and won the 200 butterfly throughout the weekend.

Fans of swimming are not surprised by her appearance. In addition to being the youngest member of the North American delegation in Tokyo 2020 at the age of 14, the tough swimmer made history by being the first Canadian to win two world records in the long pool since 1984 and 1967.

The 16-year-old is collecting world records, such as the one in the 400 mixed medley, thanks to which she has surpassed Katinka Hossu’s seven-year old record, as well as the one in the 400 freestyle with which she had surpassed Ariane Titmus.

After the record she said, “Of course it’s really great and I’m really happy to get another world record!”

It doesn’t end there: she also set other national and junior records during the week and became the first swimmer to hold world records in the 400 freestyle and 400 medley at the same time.

Another success 

She also won the 200 butterfly over the weekend and tried out for the 200 style as well. Her presence is no surprise to swimming fans.

The formidable swimmer, at the age of 14, had been the youngest member of the entire North American delegation to Tokyo 2020 and also became the first Canadian since 1984 and 1967 to take two world records in the long tank.
