The fight is already begun for the coveted AFC Asian Cup Golden Boot, which is awarded to the competition’s top goal scorer, as the AFC Asian Cup 2023 gets underway in Qatar.

Several Asian football legends, such as Ali Daei, Tim Cahill, and Lee Dong-gook, have held the title in the past. This year, all of the top attackers competing in the 2023 AFC Asian Cup, including Son Heung-min, Takumi Minamino, and Takefusa Kubo, will be vying for a spot in the exclusive group.

The AFC Asian Cup 2023 in Qatar is being played by a total of 24 nations, and it ends on February 10.

AFC Asian Cup 2023 top goal scorers

With nine goals, Qatar’s Almoez Ali led all scorers in the 2019 AFC Asian Cup. Additionally, it surpassed Iran great Ali Daei’s 1996 total of eight goals scored in a single edition of the continental football tournament as the most goals scored by a player.

Almoez Ali, who is also a member of the Qatari side for the 2023 AFC Asian Cup, scored his team’s second goal in the opening match of the competition at Lusail Stadium, a 3-0 victory over Lebanon. Akram Afif opened the scoring for the match.

Ali wants to make history this year by being the first player to win the Asian Cup’s best scorer award twice.

With 14 goals in three separate AFC Asian Cup editions, Ali Daei continues to retain the record for most goals scored in the competition. But with ten goals already under his belt, Ali is very close to breaking the record.
