In the mixed doubles draw, Bopanna was the lone tennis participant from India. In the men’s doubles second round, N Sriram Balaji and Victor Vlad Cornea were defeated.

Australian Open 2024 mixed doubles competitors Rohan Bopanna of India and Timea Babos of Hungary withdrew on Saturday.

Bopanna and Babos, who made it to the Australian Open final in 2018, were supposed to play Maximo Gonzalez of Argentina and Nadiia Kichenok of Ukraine in Saturday’s opening round at Melbourne Park, but they had to withdraw at the last minute.

In the mixed doubles draw of the Australian Open 2024, Bopanna was the sole tennis player from India. Last year, he and Sania Mirza advanced to the Australian Open mixed doubles final.

In the third round of the Australian Open, the 43-year-old Bopanna and Australia’s Matthew Ebden, the second seeds in the men’s doubles division, will play against Wesley Koolhof of the Netherlands and Nikola Mektic of Croatia on Sunday.

At the Australian Open 2024, Bopanna is the sole active Indian challenger.

The 10th-seeded players Marcelo Arevalo of El Salvador and Mate Pavic of Croatia defeated India’s N Sriram Balaji and his Romanian partner Victor Vlad Cornea earlier on Saturday in the men’s doubles second round, 6-3, 6-3.

In order to gain the lead in the third game, Arevalo and Pavic broke Balaji’s serves. In the ninth game, they defeated Cornea’s serves to win the opening set. In the sixth game of the second set, Arevalo and Pavic overcame Balaji to advance to the third round.

For N Sriram Balaji, the Australian Open 2024 was his first Grand Slam competition. Balaji also defeated Italian duo Matteo Arnaldi and Andrea Pellegrino in straight sets to win the opening round with Cornea.
