Afghanistan Under-19s were bowled out for 103 in their pursuit of 285 in East London by Ubaid Shah, the younger brother of Naseem Shah, and Mohammad Zeeshan, who played for Peshawar Zalmi in the Pakistan Super League. Together, they claimed seven wickets.

After defeating India Under-19s in the Asia Cup in December of last year, the Bangladesh Under-19s seemed set to make waves once more when left-arm seamer Maruf Mridha claimed five wickets in the Under-19 World Cup held in Bloemfontein. India was held to 251 for 7 thanks to Maruf’s strikes, but Saumy Pandey outscored Maruf with 4 for 24 to send his team into victory.

Sarfaraz Khan’s younger brother Musheer Khan chipped in with two wickets, one of which went to Mohammad Shihab James, who led Bangladesh in scoring with 54 off 77 balls. James was the last batter to go, as Bangladesh was bowled out for 167 in 45.5 overs. Musheer also struck Bangladesh directly, sinking it. Earlier in the day, India’s innings was built around half-centuries from opener Adarsh Singh (76 off 96) and captain Uday Saharan (64 off 94). Aravelly Avinash (23 off 17), who was picked by Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2024 auction, and Sachin Dhas (26 off 20) then gave the innings some late impetus.

In Potchefstroom, England Under-19s easily defeated Scotland Under-19s to begin their victorious campaign at the Under-19 World Cup.

After setting the tone for England with a three-wicket haul, Luc Benkenstein—son of former South Africa international Dale—sealed the triumph with an undefeated cameo. The brother of England star Rehan, Farhan Ahmed, also contributed to England’s 174-wicket victory against Scotland by taking three wickets.

With seven wickets and 142 balls remaining, captain Ben McKinney then blasted his team to victory with an innings of 88 off 68 balls. In his first wicket partnership of 106 runs, he was joined by Jaydn Denly (40 off 50 balls).

Scotland lost wickets in bunches after being asked to bat first and never got going. In their whole innings, they didn’t even have a single half-century stand. They were led by Owen Gould, who scored 48 off 61 balls with five fours and a six. Five boundaries were scored by the remaining nine hitters combined. Harry Armstrong got wounded and missed Scotland’s match.
