Ethiopia’s Lamecha Girma will return

When Lamecha Girma of Ethiopia races in the Meeting Hauts-de-France Pas-de-Calais in Lievin, France on February 10, he will be returning to the location of his world indoor 3000m record.
The previous world mark of 7:24.90 established by Daniel Komen in 1998 was broken by the multiple world and Olympic 3000m steeplechase medalist, who clocking in at 7:23.81 at the World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold competition last year. In June, he ran a 7:52.11 3000m steeplechase in Paris, setting a new world record.
Six days after competing in the 3000m in the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix in Boston, Girma is now preparing for another event at the Arena Stade Couvert.
Girma is the second athlete to be announced at the Meeting Hauts-de-France Pas-de-Calais this year, after Katie Moon, the Olympic and world champion pole vaulter from the United States.
On January 27, Astana will host the World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold season. The fields for the men’s and women’s 60-meter hurdles have just been revealed.
Among the competitors in the men’s division are Yaqoub Al-Youha of Kuwait, Cuba’s Roger Iribarne, and Milan Trajkovic of Cyprus, the 2018 global indoor champion Andrew Pozzi of Britain.
In the women’s division, Tobi Amusan, the winner of the 2022 world 100-meter hurdles, USA’s Tia Jones and Alaysha Johnson, Ireland’s Sarah Lavin, and two-time world indoor champion Nia Ali of the USA are among the competitors.
