Olympic freestyle superstar Ailing (Eileen) Gu on role as Gangwon 2024 Global Ambassador
“Sport is for everyone” is the message that the double Olympic and Youth Olympic Games winner is bringing to the quadrennial event, along with a new role.
A new line is being added to the already extensive CV of double Olympic champion EAiling (Eileen Gu).
As she makes her comeback to the Youth Olympic Games stage as a Gangwon 2024 Global Ambassador, the full-time freestyle skier, full-time model, and full-time student is putting all of her many abilities to use.
The fourth Winter Youth Olympic Games in Gangwon, which will take place from January 19 to February 1, will include a record 1,900 athletes.
Gu is excited to impart her knowledge to the upcoming generation of athletes after winning gold in slopestyle, halfpipe, and big air at the previous competition in Lausanne, 2020. She then repeated the feat in Beijing, 2022.
The 20-year-old Chinese freestyler told Olympics.com of her role: “It is an honor to be named Global Ambassador for YOG Gangwon 2024, as this event and the values it champions align perfectly with the message I hope to spread to young people worldwide: Sport is for everyone, regardless of gender, age, ability, geographic location, and religion.” “It can bring people together and provide a channel for friendship, empathy, and communication.”
“Welcome back to the Youth Olympic Games, Eileen,” said IOC President Thomas Bach to the rising star in freestyle. For you, this is where it all began.”
He said, “Eileen is a remarkable athlete and an inspiration to young people everywhere.” “Her position as a Global Ambassador for the Winter YOG Gangwon 2024 will definitely have a significant influence on aspiring young athletes and contribute to the global dissemination of the Olympic spirit.”
