Alfred and Asher-Smith lead 60m field for Millrose Games

At the Millrose Games, a World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold competition, in New York on February 11, Julien Alfred, the second-fastest woman in history over 60 meters, will compete against four Olympic medalists in the short sprint.

The St. Lucian sprinter finished only 0.02 short of the long-standing world record when she won the NCAA indoor championship last year, setting a new North American mark of 6.94. In addition, she became second on the world indoor all-time chart with her 22.01 NCAA indoor 200-meter victory.

She had a perfect record at 100 meters outdoors from April to August. She finished sixth in the World Championships final, her first and only defeat of the year. In the 200m, she improved even further by placing fourth.

A formidable lineup, led by 2019 global 200-meter champion Dina Asher-Smith, will face Alfred. The 28-year-old is the owner of eight worldwide medals, seven continental medals, four of which are gold, and the British records for the 60-, 100-, and 200-meter events.

Asher-Smith, who recently moved to the US, stated, “I am looking forward to racing at The Millrose Games for the first time. It is one of the most prestigious and historic indoor competitions in the USA.” “I’m looking forward to a big year in 2024 and I’m really enjoying my new training setup in Austin.”

English Gardner, the 2016 Olympic 4x100m champion from the United States and the 2019 Millrose Games 60-meter champion, will also be competing, as will Briana Williams of Jamaica, the 2021 Olympic 4x100m gold medallist.

World indoor bronze medallist Marybeth Sant-Price, 2023 Millrose runner-up Tamari Davis, 2016 Olympic 4x100m silver medallist Shashalee Forbes and NACAC silver medallist Celera Barnes.
