South Asian Cross-Country Championship with six athletes from Sri Lanka

Six Sri Lankan competitors have earned spots in the 2024 South Asian Cross Country Championship (Men), which takes place on March 3rd in Lahore, Pakistan.

This South Asian competition will be represented by six players who placed first in the senior and junior events in a selection tournament conducted on January 20 at the Diyagama Mahinda Rajapaksa Sports Complex.

In the senior division of the cross-country running competition, which was hosted by the Ceylon Lions Sports Club in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Athletics Institute, army representative Vicknaraja Vakshan triumphed in the 10 km event, clocking in at 32 minutes and 11 seconds.

In the meantime, Ratnapura St. Aloysius College’s Lahiru Achintha won the 8-kilometer junior race with a timing of 27 minutes and 53 seconds.

The following athletes placed first in the senior and junior competition divisions to earn a spot in the South Asian cross-country running tournament

1.V. Vakshan (Army) – 32.11 minutes 2. R.A. Hemantha Kumar (Police) – 32.20 minutes 3.W.M.N.G. Abeyratne (Army) – 32.27 Junior race – 8 km 1.
