ITF World Tennis Tour Player of the Month
2024.02.03
ITF World Tennis Tour Player of the Month for January is Daniel Masur, who began 2024 with three championships and an unblemished record in singles play.
The 29-year-old German finished an incredible month by winning back-to-back home tournaments at M15 Cadolzburg and M25 Nussloch. In addition, he claimed the doubles championship in the latter event.
“It’s been a great start,” Munich native Masur, who trains under coach Lars Uebel, remarked. “Doing a 10-0 is not something you do every day. It’s crucial to maintain your health and make an effort to go on in that manner. Although I’m not going to win every event, I’m off to a very, very good start to the year.
Masur claims that being sidelined by Covid for the first few weeks of the year may have actually been a gift in disguise, which is why his performance was especially impressive.
“Perhaps it was helpful to me,” he thought. I was feeling a little more at ease than normal. Because I didn’t have really high expectations, I was a little more patient. I was allowing myself some leeway to make mistakes because I knew I was unwell a few days prior. On the court, I was well-balanced between composed and prepared. When these are in the proper proportion, I believe that everything is excellent
Masur defeated Michael Agwi of Ireland 6-3 3-6 6-4 in the M15 Cadolzburg final. In the M25 Nussloch final, Masur defeated fellow countryman Tom Gentzsch 6-1 6-3.
Along with Kei Wehnelt, he also won five doubles matches, advancing to a semi-final in Cadolzburg and winning the championship in Nussolch.
He was one of only two players, along with Kyle Edmund of Great Britain, to win two singles championships on the ITF World Tennis Tour during the month. He was also the only player to win three titles overall.
He therefore moved up 32 ranks this week to reclaim his place in the ATP’s Top 400 at No. 393.
