Yashasvi Jaiswal’s spectacular double hundred
2024.02.03
Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah returned with an impressive 6-wicket haul
The host team showed off their supremacy on the second day of the Vizag Test between India and England at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium. Following the completion of their first innings in the morning session, India’s bowlers produced an outstanding display to limit England and keep their lead in the game.
India resumed their innings at 336/6 to start the day, and Yashasvi Jaiswal played some outstanding batting. Following up his score of 179 the previous night, Jaiswal achieved a first-time double century with great flair before being removed by James Anderson for an outstanding 209 runs. The innings ended at 396 as a result of India’s bottom order unable to contain the English bowling assault. Anderson, Rehan Ahmed, and Shoaib Bashir topped England’s bowlers with three wickets apiece.
Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley, England’s opening batters, got off to a steady start against the Indian spinners. Together, they managed to score 59 runs before Kuldeep Yadav finally broke through by getting Duckett for just 21. But Crawley maintained his strong form and scored an important half-century. Ollie Pope helped him along as they added 55 runs, and after a brilliant 76, Axar Patel got Crawley back to the pavilion.
With a brilliant bowling stint, India’s speed spearhead, Jasprit Bumrah, swung the balance in his side’s advantage. Bumrah’s explosive deliveries quickly took six wickets in rapid succession, destroying the English batting order. Among the important wickets he claimed were those of Joe Root (5), Ollie Pope (23), and Jonny Bairstow (25). Bumrah’s outstanding stats of 6/45 in 15.5 overs, which included 5 maidens, were a major factor in keeping England to 253 all out.
India continued to dominate at the close of the day’s play, completing their second innings with 28/0 in 5 overs. With Rohit Sharma (13) and Yashasvi (15) still undefeated, India’s lead was increased to 171 runs. India is ready to take advantage of their strong position in the contest on the third day of the Test.
