The Sri Lankan national cricket team has appointed former Australian first-class cricketer Craig Howard as its new spin coach.
After serving as an Australian first-class cricket player in the 1990s, Howard went on to become a spin coach. As a certified third-level coach, he has also served as a consulting coach for Australian cricket for more than 12 years.
There, he worked as an assistant coach with teams (men’s and women’s) including Australia A and Cricket Australia XI and received a great deal of expertise with the organization’s spinner coaching programs.
Additionally, he reportedly served as a spin coach for the Adelaide Strikers and South Australian Redbacks from 2011 to 2015.
Prior to joining the Sri Lankan squad, he worked as a coach for the Australian state team Victoria and the women’s team in New Zealand, where he got expertise as a spin coach.
Howard will begin his responsibilities with the current one-day series in the Sri Lanka-Afghanistan cricket series, according to a statement from Sri Lanka Cricket.
Beginning on February 1, 2024, Craig Howard will serve as the Sri Lankan spinning coach on a two-year deal.
