Thanks to his performance in the Test cricket match against Afghanistan, Prabhath Jayasuriya has risen to the sixth spot in the global rankings for bowlers.
With three wickets in the first innings and five in the second, Jayasuriya took eight wickets in the just finished Sri Lanka vs. Afghanistan Test cricket match. He was also named man of the match.
In addition to his skill, he has amassed 783 points to rank sixth among test bowlers worldwide. This will thus be remembered as his greatest Test ranking.
Additionally, Asita Fernando, Kasun Rajitha, and Vishwa Fernando—who shown their fastball prowess in that game—have moved up to the 34th, 44th, and 51st ranks in the standings.
On the other hand, Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah became the first fast bowler from his country to be ranked #1 among Test bowlers and has managed to top the Test bowling rankings as well. Previously, during 1979–1980, Kapil Dev held the second position. Additionally, Bumrah succeeded in becoming the fourth Indian to occupy the top rank among Test bowlers. Prior to this, Bishan Singh, Ravindra Jadeja, and Ravichandran Ashwin were able to hold the top spot.
Bumrah’s development may be attributed to his nine wickets in the second Test matchup with England.
Nonetheless, there hasn’t been any notable shift in the top 10 rankings for Test batsmen. While Angelo Mathews has risen four spots to the 24th spot in the rankings with his outstanding century against Afghanistan, Dimuth Karunaratne is ranked ninth. Dinesh Chandimal holds the twenty-third spot.
