The 17th edition of the Indian Premier League will have 74 matches in total. The reigning champions are the Chennai Super Kings.

Anticipated dates for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season are March 22–May 26. In the 2024 Indian Premier League, ten clubs will compete in 74 Twenty20 cricket matches, which will include three playoffs and a final.

The ten teams competing in the 17th IPL season will fight for four playoff berths. After being split into two equal groups (A and B), the teams will play one home-and-away match against the five teams in the other group and one group match against the four other teams.

Over the league stage, each side will play 14 games, seven at home and seven away. The winner of the first qualification between the top two teams on the points table advances to the final.

The eliminator is played in the interim between the third and fourth-placed clubs in the league stage. To qualify for the grand final, the winner of the match will face the loser of qualifier 1.

The IPL trophy was lifted by Chennai Super Kings for a record-tying fifth time last year when they defeated Gujarat Titans in the championship game. The Mumbai Indians have also claimed five IPL championships. Kolkata Knight Riders are the second most successful team in the IPL, having won two titles.

Indian players will train for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in June in the West Indies and the USA after the IPL 2024.
