The World Rugby U20 Championship in 2024 will be held in South Africa, while the World Rugby U20 Trophy will be held in Scotland, according to information released today by World Rugby.

The two age-grade competitions are an important component of the international federation’s involvement in raising the standard of rugby worldwide by giving gifted young players a real route to the elite level. More than 1,550 players, including 32 Rugby World Cup champions, have made their test debuts after competing in the showcase events since they were first hosted in 2008.

The Western Cape towns of Stellenbosch and Cape Town will host five match days for the World Rugby U20 Championship in 2024. The top 12 countries in the globe have been divided into three pools of four, with three winners in a row. Along with New Zealand, Wales, and Spain—who will make their debut following their 2023 World Rugby U20 Trophy victory—France was grouped in Pool A.

The Junior Springboks will try to make an impression once more on home soil as they take on England, Argentina, and Fiji in Pool C and 2023 runners-up Ireland, Australia, Georgia, and Italy in Pool B. The Junior Springboks earned a bronze medal with an outstanding defensive and forward performance.

On July 19, the final will take place at Cape Town Stadium.

Teams from Argentina, Australia, England, Fiji, France, Georgia, Ireland, Italy, New Zealand, South Africa, Spain, and Wales will compete in the World Rugby U20 Championship in 2024.

The 2024 World Rugby U20 Trophy will take place in the northern hemisphere following a triumphant 2023 competition held in Kenya. Eight teams will compete in the 2024 edition, which will be held in Scotland over four match days at Edinburgh’s Hive Stadium, in an effort to advance to the World Rugby U20 Championship in 2025.

Three countries still need to qualify through regional contests in North America, Oceania, and Africa, even though five teams have already been announced. On March 8 in Auckland, New Zealand, Samoa and Tonga will square off in the Oceania play-off; the winner will join the U20 Trophy roster. The U20 Barthés Trophy champion from Africa will represent Africa, while the winner of the Canada-USA play-off will represent North America.

Scotland hopes to take full use of home advantage in order to win and earn their first appearance in the U20 Championship since their relegation in 2019. They are paired alongside qualifying nations from North America and Africa in Pool B, and U20 Trophy debutants the Netherlands against Uruguay in Pool A. Other teams in Pool A are Hong Kong, China, Japan, and the Oceania qualifier.

The following teams are competing in the World Rugby U20 Trophy 2024: Scotland, Hong Kong, Japan (who was demoted from the U20 Championship in 2023), and Africa, North America, Oceania, China (Asia), the Netherlands (Europe), and Uruguay (South America) are represented.
