Thurston College and Isipatana College are set to square off in the 61st annual Blackham Wijewardene Memorial Trophy on the 24th and 25th of this month at the Sinhala Sports Club venue in Colombo.
It is noteworthy that these two teams are competing in the Sri Lanka School Cricket Association’s Tier B event, which is the first tier of the Under-19 Inter-School Cricket event.
Still, it was impressive that Thurston emerged as co-champions of the just finished one-day cricket competition. Isipathana Vidyalaya is regarded as a highly skilled squad as well.
Vihas Thevmika, who also plays for the Sri Lankan young squad under the age of 19, has been given the task of managing Thurston College this year. Shanikya Deshapriya is his assistant.
The Isipatha college squad is led by Situka Gunawardena, with Tarushka Ashen serving as his assistant.
Thurston College has won six of the tournaments that the between competition has hosted since its inception in 1964.
Thurston College, the 2019 tournament winners, holds the Blackham Wijewardene Memorial Cup in addition to the distinction of being the competition’s final winner. Under Sandaru Diaz’s direction, they triumphed by 10 wickets that year.

It is a given that both sides are prepared to play to their very best in these three games in order to alter the course of the series. The fact that the Thurston guys are the ODI tournament champions and are coming into this match with that pride has drawn attention from everyone.
