Australia crushed a weak New Zealand batting order to win the Twenty20 International series in Auckland. Josh Hazlewood bowled brilliantly with the new ball, while legspinner Adam Zampa got back to his best.

Australia won the second Twenty20 international in Auckland by 72 runs on Friday, securing the three-match series after a careless batting attempt by New Zealand was crushed.

At Eden Park, leg-spinner Adam Zampa clobbered the middle order for a 4-34 total as the host team was reduced to 102 in 17 overs.

After losing early wickets, New Zealand never seemed like they could compete with the visitors, who were bowled out for 174 in the last over.

In the 14th over, Zampa caught Glenn Phillips at long-on, ending New Zealand’s chances of victory. Glenn Phillips was the only one to offer fight with 42.

Devon Conway’s thumb injury sustained in the field hindered the Black Caps’ cause by preventing the opener from batting.

Conway may be questionable for both the two-Test series beginning in Wellington next week and Sunday’s third match in Auckland because to the injury he suffered when he was wicket-keeping.

One of eight New Zealand batsmen who failed to score over 10 due to a series of poor strokes was captain Mitchell Santner, who attempted to go up the order but failed at number five.

Earlier, Australia was put in and opener Travis Head scored 45 runs off of 22 balls, but they faltered in the middle thanks to excellent bowling from paceman Lockie Ferguson.
After they were 84-1 in the seventh over, Ferguson took 4-12 from 3.5 overs as Head’s removal caused them to lose five wickets in as many overs.

Two other noteworthy scores were a late 28 from Pat Cummins and a 26 from skipper Mitchell Marsh.

For the hosts, Santner, Adam Milne, and Ben Sears all claimed two wickets apiece.
