Afghan players put up outstanding performances in the first One-Day International (ODI) of their three-match series against Ireland, leading their team to a decisive win over their Irish opponents. Rahmanullah Gurbaz deservedly won “Player of the Match” after scoring an incredible century. However, it was another Afghani star who stole the show with an incredible bowling performance that saw him take four wickets.

Fans were left in awe of Farooqi’s talent and accuracy when he dismantled one of Ireland’s batsmen with a blistering yorker.

Afghanistan won the toss and chose to bat first. They showed off their amazing batting ability by amassing an impressive 310/5 in the 50 overs that were given to them. Gurbaz’s explosive 121 runs off 117 balls, complete with eight fours and six sixes, was the high point of their innings. Afghanistan’s position was further cemented by contributions from Hashmatullah Shahidi (50 runs off 33 balls) and Ibrahim Zadran (60 runs), posing a formidable challenge to Ireland.

The most memorable moment for Farooqi came in the 46th over when he attacked Ireland’s Mark Adair with a string of yorkers. Farooqi maintained his consistency with a scorching yorker on the final ball of the over, leaving Adair unable to respond. When the ball struck the stumps from underneath the bat, Farooqi celebrated with great glee, showcasing the intensity and joy of the moment with a mid-air kick.

Afghanistan defeated Ireland by 35 runs after successfully defending their total thanks to Farooqi’s heroics. They currently lead the three-match leg 1-0.
Cricket fans are looking forward to the 2nd ODI, which is set to take place at the same Sharjah Cricket Stadium as the initial encounter, as the series goes on.

Afghanistan 310 for 5 (Gurbaz 121, Ibrahim 60, Van Woerkom 3-55) beat Ireland 275 for 8 (Tector 138, Tucker 85, Farooqi 4-51) by 35 runs
