Kusal Mendis will lead the side with Charith Asalanka being his deputy.

The 16-man Sri Lanka Cricket (SCL) men’s team for the next ODI series against Bangladesh was revealed on Tuesday. The three-match ODI leg is scheduled to start at Chattogram’s Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium on Wednesday, March 13.

Pathum Nissanka, the youthful star opener, has returned to the Sri Lankan team in a big way. With Nissanka out of the just finished T20I series against Bangladesh because of a hamstring injury he suffered during the home series against Afghanistan, his return represents a significant milestone for Sri Lankan cricket. For the ODIs, Avishka Fernando, who took Nissanka’s spot in the T20I team, has been able to hold onto his spot.

In the 50-over format, Kusal Mendis, the wicketkeeper-batter, will still be leading the Islanders. Charith Asalanka, who will be the vice-captain for the series, will assist Mendis. Asalanka, who replaced regular T20 captain Wanindu Hasaranga while he was serving a suspension, recently shown his leadership abilities by captaining Sri Lanka in the first two Twenty20 Internationals.

Some well-known personalities will be in the Sri Lankan team for the Bangladesh One-Day Internationals: Hasaranga, Maheesh Theekshana, Sadeera Samarawickrama, Kamindu Mendis, Hasaranga, Akila Dananjaya, Chamika Karunaratne, Dilshan Madushanka, Pramod Madushan, and Lahiru Kumara.

Both sides recently engaged in a three-match Twenty20 International series, which saw the visiting squad defeat Bangladesh 2-1 to seal the series.
