After serving as the temporary head coach for the New Zealand series, Azhar Mahmood will remain the assistant coach for all formats.

Former South African batsman Gary Kirsten has been named Pakistan’s white-ball coach, while former Australian fast bowler Jason Gillespie has been designated the country’s new Test coach. After being temporarily appointed for the New Zealand series, Azhar Mahmood will remain the assistant coach for all formats.

After a hiring procedure, the three coaches were given two-year contracts.

Since Grant Bradburn, who succeeded Saqlain Mushtaq as head coach last year, resigned in January to become head coach of Glamorgan, the post had been empty. Other well-known figures were contacted by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), including Shane Watson, who eventually withdrew from the competition.

Kirsten is anticipated to take over from the England tour, which will consist of a four-match Twenty20 International series that will begin in Leeds on May 22. Prior to the team’s departure for the T20 World Cup in the USA and the Caribbean, the series’ last game is scheduled for May 30. The Bangladesh series, which consists of two Test matches, will be Gillespie’s first task in August.

PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi made the news during a Lahore press conference.
