At the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium, Sri Lanka A began their five-match ODI series against Afghanistan on a high note, winning the first game by eight runs using the DLS technique on Sunday.

When the Lankans batted first, Nuwanidu Fernando top scored with 83 off 67 balls (8×4, 2×6), followed by opening batsman Nishan Madushka with 72 off 82 (7×4) and Kamil Mishara with 48 off 56 (4×4). Ultimately, the Lankans amassed 304 for 8.

After a revised 286 from 48 overs in bad weather, Afghanistan A mounted a daring chase led by opening batsman Riaz Hassan, who hit a century – 100 off 115 balls, including 10 boundaries and a six – and Darwish Rasooli, who scored 75 off 70 (7×4, 1×6). But with captain Sahan Arachchige taking three wickets for forty from his ten overs, the Lankan bowlers did a good job of applying the brakes down the line.
