After winning two of her biggest championships to start the month, Jana Fett has been named the ITF World Tennis Tour Player of the Month for April.

Fett hadn’t won a professional title above the W25 level in nine years, but her impressive performances at W75 Split and W100 Oeiras quickly allayed any worries that her finest days were behind her.

“I’d like to thank you all for the support this past month,” Fett remarked. “It’s been one of the best months of my career and I’m really happy and proud of how I’ve been playing.”

Fett dominated the competition at her native Split, where Slovenia’s Veronika Erjavec, who would go on to win the biggest championship of her career at W75 Koper a week later, was the only player to beat Fett in three sets.

“It’s been one of the best months of my career and I’m really happy and proud of how I’ve been playing”

In the quarterfinal round, she managed to serve up a bagel set in the deciding set. She then proceeded to beat Panna Udvardy 6-1 6-0 before destroying Ipek Oz in the title match with an equally forceful display.

“Winning the title in Split was really special,” stated Fett. “I really enjoyed playing at home. I’m quite happy that I was able to win the title in front of my countrymen because there aren’t many competitions there.”

Fett, who peaked at No. 97 in 2017, ventured back into the world of professional tennis at the Stuttgart WTA event, but he soon returned to the ITF World Tennis Tour following his first-round defeat to Aliaksandra Sasnovich on German clay.

She quickly found her winning form again at W100 Oeiras, defeating Udvardy once more for the loss of just two games to advance to another final and capture the greatest title of her career.

Her triumph was her third career clay-court championship and her ninth ITF World Tennis Tour singles win overall.
“It’s a great ranking and confidence boost for me and I’m really excited and hungry for more”

“Of course winning my biggest title so far in Portugal last week was amazing,” she stated. “My team and I have been working really hard so I’m really proud I managed to play some great tennis and stay consistent throughout those two weeks [in Spilt and Oeiras].”

Fett climbs to No. 128 in the WTA rankings this week – a welcome reward for her special month.

“It’s a great ranking and confidence boost for me and I’m really excited and hungry for more,” Fett added. “It also means a lot being named an ITF World Tennis Tour player of the Month – there are so many great players competing every week so it’s an honour being chosen for this award, thank you.”

Fett’s fantastic April:

– Compiled a 10-0 win-loss record on the ITF World Tennis Tour
– Went 20-2 in sets
– Recorded six bagel (6-0) sets
– Jumped back inside the world’s top 150 for the first time since September 2018
– Has now won nine ITF singles titles, including five on hard courts, three on clay and one on carpet
