Yupun Abeykoon managed to place fourth in the men’s 100-meter race at the Roma Sprint Festival 2024 running competition, which took place in Italy, yesterday (18).

Yupun Abeykoon, who has been working hard to earn a spot in the 2024 Olympics, entered the racing field today in an attempt to seize this chance. He has been doing so since the start of the season.

Marcel Jacobs, the reigning Olympic champion, was prepared to compete alongside him at this point. Yupun’s name stood in front of him among the competitors, having set a personal best time of 9.96 seconds, second only to Jacobs.

Nevertheless, Yupun finished the tournament today with a time of 10.21 seconds, placing him in fourth place. With a time of 10.07 seconds, Jacobs won today’s competition, followed by ALI Chituru in second place.

Yupun’s somewhat sluggish start to the finish time is also thought to be the cause. Yupun still has chances to meet the Olympic qualifying requirements in the future, therefore his Olympic dreams are not over.
