Against the Netherlands, the Sri Lankan squad had to lose by 20 runs in the opening practice match of the 2024 T20 Cricket World Cup this morning (29).
In the World Cup match in which they participated, Sri Lanka won the toss and invited the Netherlands to bat first.
The Netherlands scored 181 runs for the loss of five wickets in the planned 20 overs, and it is noteworthy that Sri Lanka’s key bowlers Mahish Thiekshana, Matisha Pathirana, Dushmantha Chamira, and Vanindu Hasaranga did not bowl.
Dilshan Madushanka claimed two wickets in the Netherlands innings.
The first five wickets of the Sri Lankan innings, which entered the field to chase the Netherlands’ total, fell within 59 runs, and at that point, all ten overs of the Sri Lankan innings had concluded, and Sri Lanka had no chance of winning the match.
However, Wanindu, who was active at the time, struck five sixes in the first five balls of the match’s 12th over, bringing Sri Lanka back into the game. Vanindu scored 43 runs off 15 balls.However, owing to wicket losses at key points, the Dutch bowlers were able to capture all of the wickets in the Sri Lankan innings for 161 runs, resulting in a 20-run victory.
