2024.05.30
In the main tournament on Wednesday evening at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum, Vietnam defeated Kazakhstan 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-22) to maintain their title in the 2024 AVC Challenge Cup for Women.
Vietnam reenacted their 3-1 Preliminary Round match against the debuting squad, in an exciting matchup between the reigning champions and the new team.
Nguyen Thi Bich Tuyen’s almost unstoppable onslaught from the flanks and backline helped her score an incredible 26 points.
Vietnam piled on the pressure as Nguyen Thi Bich Tuyen launched fierce attacks that gave the opposition little time or room to regroup. They were also more composed throughout transitions and played faster.
Sana Anarkulova, Kazakhstan’s captain, was crucial because she played a fantastic all-around game. She led the Kazakh attack and made key plays when needed. But they had to do more effort to stop the major scorer for their rivals. They had to put in double the effort in the backcourt and tighten up their net defense.
The Kazakhs were successful in a number of sequences where they were able to match their opponents’ quick tempo. They took a commanding lead in the third set but a series of expensive mistakes cost them the match.
Wednesday evening’s victory will send Vietnam back to Manila, Philippines as they have confirmed their slot to compete in the FIVB Volleyball Challenger Cup which will take place from July 4-7, 2024.
