Four national sports federations are suspended by the Sports Ministry.

A gazette notice suspending the registration of the Sri Lankan cycling, rugby, automobile, and netball federations was released by Minister of Sports Harin Fernando.

Since these federations have been suspended, Professor Shemal Fernando, Director General of the Department of Sports Development, has been designated as the appropriate authority to supervise the management and operations of these sports organizations.

The notice published in the gazette does not specify the precise grounds for the suspension. Professor Fernando stated in an interview with Daily Mirror that he would set up plans to hold the four sports bodies’ elections as soon as possible.
