Australia defeated Namibia by nine wickets on Tuesday to earn a spot in the Super Eight of the current ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.
With a strong batting display, Australia reached the total in 5.4 overs, smashing a modest goal of 72.
Before David Weise got him out, David Warner gave his team a blistering start with an eight-ball 20, which included three boundaries and one six.
But Mitchell Marsh, the captain, and Travis Head maintained the momentum, winning the game inside the powerplay.
Marsh struck a nine-ball eighteen, studded with three boundaries and one six, while Head hit 34 off 17 with the aid of five boundaries and two sixes.
Earlier, Australia chose to bowl and destroyed the Namibian batting order in 4.1 overs, taking three fast wickets and scoring 15 runs.
Namibia played conservatively after the early onslaught, scoring just six runs in the following 21 deliveries and losing two wickets in the process.
Gerhard Erasmus, the captain of Namibia, continued rotating the strike when wickets fell, but he changed tactics during the 29-run partnership with Jack Brassell (2).
Erasmus recorded the highest score for his team with a 36 from 43 balls, including four boundaries and one six.
Namibia’s innings was ended at 72 runs in 17 overs by Marcus Stoinis, who also removed Ben Shikongo, the last man, and Erasmus.
Zampa led Australia’s bowling statistics with 4-12, while Josh Hazlewood and Stoinis each claimed two wickets.
