Mohammad Amir was named Player of the Match for his splendid bowling show.

Pakistan and Canada squared off in Match 22 of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium. After winning the toss, Pakistan chose to bowl first and put on a commanding display with the ball and the bat, winning handily by seven wickets.

Canada’s innings ended at 106 for 7 in their allocated 20 overs after a rocky start and lackluster play. Aaron Johnson put on a remarkable display, scoring 52 off 44 balls while hitting four fours and four sixes. He did not, however, get much assistance from his comrades.

Nicholas Kirton (1 off 6), Pargat Singh (2 off 6), and Navneet Dhaliwal (4 off 7) all fell for pennies. Ravinderpal Singh and Shreyas Movva struggled as well, with scores of 0 and 2, respectively. While Dillon Heyliger (9 off 11) and Kaleem Sana (13 off 14) added a few runs towards the end, it was not enough to provide much of a challenge. Saad Bin Zafar finished with a patient 10 off 21.

From the beginning, Pakistan’s bowlers were sharp, with Mohammad Amir in the forefront. Amir was named Player of the Match for his outstanding 2 for 13 innings in 4 overs. In his four overs, Haris Rauf gave up 26 runs while taking two wickets as well. Important wickets were shared by Naseem Shah (1 for 24) and Shaheen Afridi (1 for 21), while Imad Wasim bowled well, conceding only 19 runs in his four overs. Canada was limited to a low score by Pakistan’s disciplined bowling effort, giving its hitters a realistic goal.

Pakistan responded by scoring 109 for 3 in 17.3 overs, chasing down the goal of 107 with remarkable ease. With two fours and one six in his unbeaten 53 off 53 balls, Mohammad Rizwan set the tone for the game. Babar Azam, who scored 33 from 33 balls, offered strong assistance. The dismissals of Usman Khan (2 off 1), Fakhar Zaman (4 off 6), and Saim Ayub (6 off 12) caused a few hitches, but Pakistan’s skilled batting order made sure there were no serious concerns. Pakistan won easily thanks to Rizwan’s solid hand, which saw them through to victory.

The bowlers from Canada made every effort to protect the low total. Heyliger gave his team some fleeting hope as the best bowler, finishing with figures of 2 for 18 in his 4 overs. In his 3.3 overs, Jeremy Gordon claimed 1 for 17. He was also a good bowler. But the tiny target and the other bowlers’ lack of wickets were too much to contain. Because Sana, Bin Zafar, and Junaid Siddiqui were unable to provide big breakthroughs, Pakistan was able to pursue the goal with plenty of overs remaining.
