Team India, captained by skipper Rohit Sharma, defeated South Africa in the much awaited ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 final to capture their second T20 World Cup championship.

Against South Africa, India won the toss and decided to bat first. Before leaving the game early, Rohit gave India a fast start with a rapid nine off five balls. But Virat Kohli was the one who really steadied the innings, hitting six fours and two sixes his route to a vital 76 off just 59 deliveries. In their allocated 20 overs, he and Axar Patel combined to hammer 47 runs off only 31 balls, giving India a competitive total of 176/7. India’s score was reinforced by Hardik Pandya’s fast five off two balls and Shivam Dube’s impressive 27 from 16 balls against a strong South African bowling attack.

India’s batsmen presented a formidable obstacle to South Africa’s bowlers. Despite taking one wicket, Marco Jansen was costly—he let up 49 runs in his four overs. The two bowlers that stood out the most were Keshav Maharaj and Anrich Nortje, who both took two wickets while keeping economical statistics of 26 and 23 runs, respectively. Even though Kagiso Rabada and Aiden Markram each took a wicket, the bowling unit was unable to stop India’s potent batting order, giving up 176 runs in all.
