The Sri Lanka Cricket Board is organizing the Lanka Premier League 2024 (LPL), which is scheduled to begin on July 1 and end on July 21. Five teams will compete in this franchise cricket competition at several locations, including Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium, and R. Premadasa Stadium.
There will be a total of 24 matches overall as each club plays the other four teams twice in the league phase and then again in the playoffs. The addition of two “power-blast overs” in the 16th and 17th overs of each innings, which permit a maximum of four fielders outside the 30-yard circle, is a special element of this competition.
The teams who are taking part include the Colombo Strikers, Jaffna Kings, Galle Marvels, Dambulla Sixers, and B-Love Kandy. The Dambulla team underwent major modifications following the arrest of co-owner Tamim Rahman on suspicion of match-fixing. The team was originally purchased by Imperial Sports Group and renamed the Dambulla Thunders. Sequoia Consultants acquired the team through DeSilva Holdings and renamed it Dambulla Sixers. In addition, the Galle Titans were renamed as Galle Marvels upon their acquisition by Prem Thakkar’s Cricket Marvels LLC.
The competition, which strives to showcase elite cricket talent and amuse spectators with its competitive structure, has gained substantial status and awareness with the appointment of Michael Clarke as its brand ambassador.
