Alice Capsey was adjudged Player of the Match for her brilliant batting display.
In the third Twenty20 International of the five-match series, England Women defeated New Zealand Women convincingly by six wickets on Thursday at the St Lawrence Ground in Canterbury. With a 3-0 result, this victory gives the home team the series victory.
After losing the toss, New Zealand elected to bat first and got off to a rough start, losing opener Georgia Plimmer for a duck. Suzie Bates, the captain, steadily led the innings with 38 runs off of 27 balls, nevertheless. With a fierce hit of 58 runs from 42 deliveries, including seven fours and two sixes, Sophie Devine ignited the bottom order.
Despite their efforts, Sophie Ecclestone (4/25), England’s bowling attack, held New Zealand to a meager score of 141/8 in their allotted 20 overs. Important wickets were also contributed by Sarah Glenn (11/14), Freya Kemp (1/38) and Lauren Filer (2/17).
As a result, England’s opening team struggled right away, losing Maia Bouchier for a duck. But Alice Capsey (67 not out) and Sophia Dunkley (35) put in an important 74-run partnership to right the ship. Player of the Match Capsey maintained her good form with a controlled knock that featured six fours and a six.
Amy Jones (19) and Freya Kemp (16*) provided valuable cameos to ensure England chased down the target comfortably in 19.2 overs, losing just four wickets.
