India won the series 4-1 with a 42-run victory in the last Twenty20 International of their 2024 tour to Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe won the toss and chose to bowl first in the match, which was played at the Harare Sports Club.
Yashasvi Jaiswal gave India’s innings an explosive start by hitting two straight sixes off Sikandar Raza’s blunder, becoming the first player in men’s T20I history to score 12 runs off the first legal ball. In their 20 overs, India managed to score a competitive total of 167/6 despite his fast removal for 12 runs off 5 balls.
The most impressive player was Sanju Samson, who amassed a vital 58 runs off 45 balls with the help of Shivam Dube’s rapid 26 off 12 balls. A strong team effort was made possible by the contributions of Shubman Gill (13), Abhishek Sharma (14), and Riyan Parag (22). Blessing Muzarabani of Zimbabwe was the most effective bowler, taking two wickets for 19 runs in his four overs. Richard Ngarava, Brandon Mavuta, and Raza also contributed wickets.
Zimbabwe’s innings unraveled early on in their chase of 168. They were unable to form meaningful partnerships and lost Wesley Madhevere for a duck in the opening over. Dion Myers (34 off 32) and Tadiwanashe Marumani (27 off 24) were the only two standout players at the top order. Faraz Akram’s 27 off 13 balls late-game rally was unable to lead Zimbabwe to victory. With four wickets for 22 runs in 3.3 overs, Mukesh Kumar spearheaded the attack, demonstrating the discipline and effectiveness of the Indian bowlers. Important assistance was given by Shivam Dube (2/25), Abhishek (1/20), Washington Sundar (1/7) and Tushar Deshpande (1/25), who together helped bowl out Zimbabwe for 125 in 18.3 overs.
