Julien Alfred cruises to women’s 100m victory
2024.07.15
On Friday, July 12, 2024, Julien Alfred won the women’s 100-meter race in the Monaco Diamond League with remarkable style.
After winning the 200 meters at the Gyulai István Memorial on Tuesday, Alfred earned her maiden Diamond League title in 10.85, pulling up Shericka Jackson with a hamstring strain. With both women timing at 10.99 in the Stade Louis II, European champion Dina Asher-Smith lost to Tamari Davis in the closing stages.
Following her victory in Paris last weekend, Patrizia van der Weken of Luxembourg finished fourth in 11.02, one place ahead of Marie-Josee Ta Lou-Smith of Cote d’Ivoire.
“I was specially prepared today not to make a mistake and to just focus on myself and my own race,” Alfred remarked in an interview with reporters following his remarks. I felt fantastic throughout the marathon, but after doing a lot of training, my legs are starting to suffer.
Naturally, I am taking pride in tonight’s Diamond League victory and cannot complain at this time. I have self-assurance. I am aware that all I have to do is have faith in both myself and my coach. The coach is aware of what’s best for me.
Alfred finished sixth in the World Championship final from the previous year, behind Sha’Carri Richardson. Among the competitors headed to Paris 2024, only the American has ran quicker this season with a season-best time of 10.78. The 24-year-old is seeking to bring home St. Lucia’s first Olympic gold when he travels to the French city.
